Phonics through spelling teaching students to segment words into phonemes and to select letters for those phonemes ie teaching students to spell words phonemically. Embedded phonics in this approach students learn vocabulary through explicit instruction on the letter sound relationships during the reading of connected text usually when the teacher notices that a student is struggling to read a particular word.



It accomplishes the former by allowing students to sound out words that are yet unknown. Embedded instruction is an approach used to promote child engagement learning and independence in everyday activities routines and transitions. This is probably the least effective way to teach reading in the above 4 listed strategies.
